The beginning forBurkhardt wood gasifiers!!!
Burkhardt GmbH, well-known as a co-generation unit manufacturer and plant engineer, from Mühlhausen in Bavaria, is giving the go-ahead for wood gasification plants of its own design to be manufactured in small batches. The company has been conducting research in the wood gasification sector since 2005, but for a long time kept a low profile in order to quietly develop a product for which there is world-wide demand.
Attempts have been made to use wood for energy (not just as fuel) and thus achieve independence from fossil fuels since the end of the 19th century. Rising fossil energy prices, the climate change debate, the nuclear phase-out, and the connected renewable energies feed-in act gave rise to a real Renaissance of wood gasifier technology.
Unfortunately, the industry is preceded by a poor reputation, because until now the plants were mainly reserved for “tinkerers” and were based on technologies that were hard to implement on an industrial scale.
Fourteen Burkhardt wood gasifiers are currently in operation throughout Germany, and the company has more than 60,000 hours of operating experience. This knowledge enables us to take the next step to small series production. With an electrical efficiency of 32%, the ECO 180 HV is far superior to not only other wood gasification procedures, but also to other processes, such as the ORC, which has an electrical efficiency of about 20%.
